17: A Quantum Connection

Kathy Cervino

I was living in Italy, and my friend Anthony was in France. One night, in the middle of the night, I decided to try something unusual. I visualized a portal in my mind—a glowing rectangle—and commanded myself to connect with Anthony. Almost instantly, I could picture his face, head resting on his pillow.

I called out in my mind, “Anthony, can you hear me? Are you awake? Can you hear me?” To my surprise, he replied in a sleepy voice, “Yes.”

I asked again, “Anthony, can you hear me? Are you awake? Can you hear me?” He murmured, “Yes,” sounding groggy but responsive.

I told him, “I’m going to give you a number, and I want you to remember it, okay?” He replied, “Yes, okay,” in his French-accented voice. I repeated, “Anthony, don’t forget this number. Tomorrow, when I ask you for it, you will tell me the number. Understand?” He drowsily agreed.

I said the number aloud: “17. Anthony, don’t forget the number 17. Tomorrow, you’ll remember it, okay?” He promised he would, though he sounded so sleepy I couldn’t help but laugh.

The next day, I actually forgot about the experiment until I saw him. I said, “Last night, I did an experiment. I gave you a number. Do you remember it?” He shook his head. “No, I don’t remember.”

Disappointed, I asked, “Just guess a number, any number.” He thought for a moment and said, “If I were to guess… I’d pick 17.”

I was stunned. Out of all the numbers in the universe, he chose 17.

That moment convinced me that synchronicities are more than coincidences—they’re quantum connections. Once formed, these connections are never truly broken. We’ve never attempted the experiment again, but it’s a memory that will stay with me forever.
