We’ve all had those magic moments when things just seem to line up perfectly. You think of an old work colleague you haven’t seen for years and suddenly you spot them in a crowd. And soon after, doors open to exciting possibilities working together again. (True story – happened to a colleague last week.) Or you randomly stumble upon the exact book that answers a burning question in your mind. These meaningful synchronicities and serendipities, make life feel special and that somehow, we’re all interconnected.

While some people dismiss such coincidences as mere chance, most of us believe that meaningful coincidences are a sign that you are in alignment with the flow of life, or that you’re on track going in the right direction.

So how about inviting and attracting more of them into your life? Here are a few tips on how to go about doing just that.

1) Set clear intentions

Intention acts as a powerful magnet for pretty much anything, from getting a promotion, to keeping your temper through to experiencing meaningful coincidences. When you set a clear goal or focus on a particular area of life, your subconscious mind notices patterns and opportunities related to it. Write down your goals, visualize them taking place, and hold them in your awareness. This works really well with the next point.

2) Be present and mindful

Coincidences are happening all the time, but if you’re distracted, you may miss them. Practicing mindfulness—whether through meditation, deep breathing, or simply being fully present—sharpens your awareness. When you cultivate presence, you become more attuned to signals and connections that might otherwise go unnoticed.

3) Follow your intuition

Your intuition is a key player in increasing synchronicities. Have you ever felt a strong nudge to go somewhere, reach out to someone, or do something quite different? These gut feelings are often guiding you toward meaningful encounters and experiences. The more you listen to and trust your intuition, the more you’ll find yourself in the right place at the right time.

4) Get out and about

While being open to signs and synchronicities is essential, ungluing yourself from your screens and meeting real people is just as important. When an opportunity presents itself, go for it! Say yes to invitations, try new experiences, and step outside your comfort zone. Synchronicities often unfold when you are engaged with life.

5) Talk to people

It’s extraordinary what opens up when you talk to people you don’t know. I often get chatting to my fellow travellers when I’m on a plane or a train. Once, when I was struggling to write my first book and didn’t know how to, I got on train. I started to talk to the person sitting opposite me who turned out to be the author of 18 books of teenage fiction. He said that he wrote 1800 words a day and that the minute he got to the number he stopped writing. He started again the following day by editing the previous day’s work. This has been my process ever since.

I think this illustrates that being open to being open creates room for unexpected and helpful connections.

6) Look for patterns and meaning

Synchronicities seem to come in the form of patterns. For example, a couple of months ago I was thinking that I knew nothing about the Cathars, a medieval Christian sect. I was doing a long drive through France, and so found a 50-minute podcast to listen to as I set off. The podcast mentioned a village called Avignonet, and I idly wondered where it was. Driving down the highway twenty minutes later, I was astonished to pass it on a hill, and, at exactly the same time, the podcast started to tell the village’s infamous story. First it made me want to know more, but in a larger sense it was a little reminder of the interconnectedness of life.

7) Cultivate curiosity

Curiosity is often the gateway for coincidence – like the above podcast example. It allows you to be open and to follow new thoughts and ideas, to meet different people and step into new situations. Additionally, it sharpens your awareness to new perspectives, leading to surprising discoveries.

Final thoughts

None of these behaviors is difficult, so try a few and see how they work out for you. And please do get in touch and tell us the results. Synchronicities, coincidences, and serendipities remind us that all of us and life is beautifully and surprisingly woven together.

Who wouldn’t want to have those delicious nudges?
