The Manuscript That Wouldn’t Stay Hidden

Evelyn Butcher
US

I never planned to write or publish a book. But within just a few days, a series of remarkable coincidences convinced me that I was supposed to publish a manuscript I had written more than two decades earlier.

In 2022, during a conversation with a neighbor about coincidences and whether they might point to something greater than ourselves, I mentioned that I had written a manuscript 20 years earlier that had been sitting untouched ever since.

She asked to read it.

The very next day, she came to my house excitedly saying, “You have to publish this book!”

I had no idea how to do that. My background is in math and science, not writing, and I knew nothing about publishing.

Then another coincidence occurred.

The next day, I received an email from someone I had met before the pandemic but had not seen in years. As it turned out, she was a writing consultant, and she offered to help edit my manuscript.

The following morning, I turned on the television and heard Joel Osteen say, “If God asks you to do something that doesn’t make sense, obedience is the answer. Don’t miss your miracle because you don’t think you can do it.”

His words left me in awe.

I wrote to a former minister using a very old email address. Unexpectedly, he decided to check for messages at that address that very morning, and he gave me the encouragement I needed to move forward.

Later, during a bus tour in Baja California, I met a man who worked in publishing in New York City. He connected me with Balboa Press.

In 2024, How I Learned About GOD from My DOG was published.

To me, these were more than coincidences. They were gentle signs guiding me to bring these thoughts into earthly form.
