Art and Synchronicity

Daniele Kay

When I think about coincidences and synchronicities, my mind goes straight to my art. I’m a self-taught, intuitive painter, and paying attention to patterns is what allowed me to become an artist in the first place. I’m not “fully successful” yet, but compared to the life I had before, art has completely changed my path—mostly through moments I still can’t explain.

One of the first synchronicities I noticed happened when I was seventeen, during a night at my grandfather’s house. I hadn’t drawn in years, but something sparked. My grandma gave me a box of my old art supplies, and one of the drawings I made was about Libras, with the line, “Their love will be rooted deeper than any grave.”

A month later, my grandfather—who was a Libra—passed away. The moment shook me, not in a frightening way, but in a way that made me pay attention. Around that same time, I began painting again, almost as if that drawing opened a door I didn’t know existed.

Since then, my art and my life have been full of strange alignments. I’ve painted symbols and scenes that later appeared in real life. I’ve created things intuitively, then met people or experienced events that mirrored the artwork almost exactly. And every time I’ve tried to give up on art and return to a regular job, a random art opportunity would appear—pulling me back to my path.

These moments aren’t loud or dramatic. They’re small, subtle, perfectly timed reminders that a conversation is happening between my creativity and the world around me. Following these synchronicities is why I believe I’m still an artist today. My art helped pull me out of a dark lifestyle, and recognizing these patterns has helped me trust myself—and my path—more than ever.
