In the summer of 2009 or 2010, I was vacationing in Pärnu, Estonia, visiting my then-girlfriend’s hometown. One afternoon, I went off on my own to explore the town. I had my iPod Shuffle with me, completely random mix of songs, from classical to punk to dance. No theme, no pattern.
After about an hour of walking, I wandered into a small regional history museum. It had the typical setup — furniture, artifacts, and folk customs — with a path that guided you from room to room, like IKEA. In one room, an old wooden cabinet caught my eye. It turned out to be an antique music box with a glass door and a large perforated copper disc inside.
As I leaned in to read the inscription on the disc, I saw the title: Ave Maria.
At that exact moment, Schubert’s Ave Maria started playing in my earbuds.
I froze. Goosebumps. A full-body chill. The timing was uncanny — too perfect, too statistically ridiculous to be random. The song hadn’t held any special meaning for me before, and neither had the setting. But something about the synchronicity felt… significant. As if the universe were winking.
I’ve never found a logical explanation for it. But it left me with a lasting feeling that I was exactly where I was meant to be. A small but powerful reminder that sometimes, something deeper is at work.
