From Small Town to Small Town
I’m from Germany and was one of three exchange students in a very small U.S. town (population about 2,000) in 1990. The three of us were a guy from Norway, a girl from Sweden, and me.
In 1997, I went on a holiday trip to Denmark.
One day, we went out for lunch and chose a restaurant in a very small town—maybe ten or fifteen houses total—somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
When I went to order, the waiter looked at me. I looked at him. And then we both started laughing really hard.
He was the Norwegian guy from my high school exchange year, now working in that tiny tavern for the holiday season.
