My former husband and I bought a house, because he had told me, “If you find a house before I buy a motorcycle, we’ll buy it.” I was drawn to this house due to its proximity to the woods I love. Eventually, I was awarded the house in our divorce.
One night I was dancing with a man I’d never seen before and would never see again. “What do you do professionally?” I asked.
“I’m a lawyer for Friendly’s Ice Cream,” he said.
“Well,” I replied, “if you ever want to buy my house and two acres, it abuts Friendly’s main plant.”
The next morning at 9:00 am, Friendly’s called me. Long story short, they bought my house, and I was able to pay off school loans, buy a condo and save money for retirement.

Another time, I was in Nepal and woke up one morning to finally see the clear sky announcing the breathtaking Himalayas. I ran outside trying to get a closer view.
I saw a group of people in front of a small house. I finally found someone who spoke English, and she told me someone had just died in the house. Not wanting to be intrusive, I walked away following the English-speaking woman.
“Do you know anyone who could take me on a mini trek?” I asked her.
“As a matter of fact,” she replied, “I just opened a bed and breakfast, and we have a guide who could.”
And thus began one of my life’s most memorable experiences into what I described as heaven.
