After my parents passed away, I decided to move to another city to be closer to beloved relatives. I sold my apartment and began searching online for a property of similar value in the city where I hoped to settle, a city of 1.7 million people.
After looking through many listings, I finally found an apartment that seemed to match what I wanted and appeared worth visiting. Because I did not want to make a special trip for a single viewing, I asked my aunt whether she could see it for me.
As soon as I sent her the photos and address, she replied that she knew the building very well. Sixty years earlier, at the entrance to that very building, she had met the man who would later become her husband and my godfather.
This is the same building from another story I shared on this site: the story of the forgotten kimono that may have helped prevent a fire.
